My Second Offer to Syracuse University and Second Scholarship!
The American University’s offer wasn’t the only one I received that year. Below is my letter of admission and financial award notice (copied from email) at Syracuse University:
The Department of Public Administration and International Affairs is pleased to offer you a Graduate Assistantship in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs for the 2014-2015 academic year to support your studies. This award is made in recognition of your fine academic and professional achievements. According to studydaddy.com the Graduate School of Syracuse University administers all such appointments. They will send notification of this Graduate Assistantship separately along with other supporting documentation should you chose to accept this offer.
Graduate Assistantships at Syracuse University are only offered to full-time matriculated graduate students. This first is a tuition scholarship covering 24 credits of tuition and valued at over $32,000. The second is a stipend that is tied to your assigned assistantship duties. The stipend, which is paid bimonthly, is valued at $13,000.
Your assistantship with the department will require 20 hours of work per week over the academic year in administrative or quasi-research positions in the various offices, centers and institutes within Maxwell. Position placements are determined after a student commits to attending Maxwell and take into account the students background, abilities and desires, as well as the needs of the various faculty and institutes overseeing projects in Maxwell. Campbell Public Affairs Institute; the Center for Policy Research; the Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration; the Moynihan Global Affairs Institute; the Center for Environmental Policy and Administration; and providing administrative and programming support to the Offices of the Dean and Career Development.
In short, the Graduate Assistantship award covers over $45,000 of the total cost of attendance for the program.
Additionally, you have been named a Maxwell Dean’s Professional Scholar by the Maxwell School for your second year of study (2015-16). This award has a value of $5,000, which will be credited to your Bursar’s account to be applied toward your additional tuition expenses. Together, both awards will cover over $50,000 of all costs associated with obtaining your degree at SU. Congratulations !
